The BackLog is an independent media site covering video games, anime, and tech. We write reviews, features, and commentary from the perspective of people who actually care about this stuff. No paid placements, no PR fluff, just honest takes.

The Review System

Our review scores aren't arbitrary numbers. Every review starts at 100 and points are deducted based on specific, documented issues: frame rate problems, weak storytelling, or predatory monetization. Bonuses are applied for standout qualities. The final score maps to a verdict: Masterpiece, Great, Good, OK, or Bad.

We believe this is more honest than a gut-feel number. Every score is traceable back to specific criteria, so you can see exactly why a game landed where it did.
